Dr. Welfferweg 27 in Westbroek
Hofstede "Dog in 't Schild" is one of the oldest farms in one of the most beautiful areas in Holland, situated beween the city of Utrecht and the forests and heather fields in Hilversum. The rich history of fhis national monument goes back to the early 18th century. At one time this farm was called 'Welgelegen' (i.e. "Well Situated"), but after the then owner bought (in 1900) a second hand crest with the words 'Dog in 't Schild', this became the farm's name from then onwards.
After a fire destroyed the local town hall, the farm served as temporary town hall, hosting local wedding ceremonies. The farm (inclusive the pentagonal haystack) has been restored – thoroughly and professionally - for a number of times throughout the past few decades. However, with the preserved original beams, the house has maintained its authentic ambiance.
In the second half of the nineties, the stables were integrated with the living area, as a result of which the house offers appr. 330 m2 of living space. The last renovation took place in 2012 / 2013. It is possible to combine work and private life in the farm.
Westbroek is a modern, active and attractive community. Apart from the impressive panoramic views, the village is strategically located, close to both the A27 and the A2. Although Utrecht – and even Amsterdam – are nearby, the farm offers tranquility, ample space and breathtaking views. Once in the spacious, completely redesigned garden, whilst overlooking the endliess meadows one instantly forgets the stress of daily life. Home feels like holiday.
Layout: spacious entrance with access to both the front house and the back house. The front house currently serves as an atelier and can also be accessed through a separate front door. In the front house we find the original fireplace/stove, which creates an authentic almost nostalgic atmosphere. Next to the uproom and provision cellar – also in the front house – is the laundry room, including the boiler.
The main living area as well as the spacious, open kitchen are situated in the old stables (the back house). The beams, the high ceiling all the way to the roof-ridge as well as the unique, rustic indoor pond create a peaceful and homely atmosphere. On the groundfloor we further find a bedroom with bathroom (toilet, shower, bath, sink) as well as a separate guest toilet.
On the first floor there are four bedrooms and two complete bathrooms. The rooms are connected through a subtle walking brdige, creating a harmonious connection with the living area.
Separate from the house there is a pentagonal haystack, providing ample space for storage or hobbies, offering plenty of opportunities. Behind this haystack is a nice, cosy office, overlooking the garden and the meadows.
From the mainroad the farm can be reached through a bridge. The property has sufficient parking space. Behind the house there is a great recreation area, suitable for chilling and barbecue, The garden has quite a number of fruit trees and offers plenty of space for children to thoroughly enjoy themselves.
